    Default Ministry for Homeland Security

The Conservative Home Affairs spokesman today called for a minister to be put in charge of 'Homeland Security' following the breach of security at Windsor.

Aside from the obvious knee-jerk reaction that this seems to be, does anybody else find that the phrase 'Homeland Security' doesn't sit comfortably?

I know that it sounds daft, but the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the term 'homeland' is a myriad of old WWII films with lots of Nazis in. It seems xenophobic and inward facing.

I'm not saying the department itself isn't a good idea, but why not a part of the Home Office (that would save a lot of paperwork setting up a new ministry and isn't this supposed to be the job of the Home Office anyway???). If it really must be separate, isn't there a better name for it? How about 'Ministry for British Security', or just 'Ministry of Security'?

I just think it is ridiculous that administrators think that the way of solving the problem is to add more administration - where the problem was probably caused by a disjointed system i the first place.

Ah the terrorists must just be quaking in their boots at the thought of all that bureaucracy marshalled against them. Once they have to file a form in triplicate to set off a bomb they willl surely think twice.
