It is maybe Ranunculus acris Flore pleno - the double flowering meadow buttercup.
This flower is about the same size as a buttercup and has the same shiny yellow petals...only MORE of them! The leaves are similar to a buttercup. It was growing at the edge of a hay field. Does anyone know what it is?

I agree, it does look like Ranunculus.

THANKS, everyone....that is definitely the same plant. I thought I knew most wild flowers but have never seen this one before.
