    Arrow Flash Problem

Hi all, I am hoping someone may be able to help. Youtube no longer works on our computer, or multi map. Youtube says
'Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.'

I updated Java script and it works on other sites. But when I go to the Flash site, it says we have the latest version. I downloaded the latest version anyway but it still gives the same error.
Can anyone help or shed some light on this? It has worked before BTW, and I can't think of anything we have done to the PC to make it do this.

    We have Windows XP.

    Thanks in advance

I've had this a few times in Firefox (previous version). The problem appeared to be that Flash, while installed, didn't integrate properly with the browser.

Javascript is a big part of YouTube as well, so if you're convinced that's working then I'd try this.

Close all yoru browser windows now, go into Task Manager and make sure they are actually closed (look for iexplore.exe for Internet Explorer or Firefox.exe for Firefox - other browsers should be self explanatory too). - if they haven't closed, wait a minute and then End the process. Uninstall Flash completely. Reboot your PC (shouldn't actually be necessary but it can't hurt). Reinstall Flash again from the Adobe site.

What browser is it you are using?

In Firefox, try downloading the Flash plugin after you've uninstalled it. When you get to a site that has Flash, a little bar will appear telling you that a plugin is missing - install it from there.

Does the problem with YouTube happen on both browsers? If I remember rightly, the last time I had this problem it took a while to fix.

If it's happening in both browsers that actually makes things slightly less complicated and point to it probably being Flash as opposed to Javascript.

Ignore the one about the Firefox plugin. I'd try the uninstall, reboot, reinstall one first.

Since you've done such a good job on the shower maybe you can post a few pics so we can get some tips?

Ok i removed flash and reinstalled it as above but it still didnt work. I thought this may have been because it was installed on D drive. So i removed it again and this time installed it on the C drive but it still will not work.
I had a slight 'flash' just know and went to a flash games website, and it works!!

    But why won't youtube work?!?!

yes, according to that site it does. I went through the steps on youtube to contact them but what a stupid site, you go around in circles without it ever giving you an email address.
I am lost as what to do now.

What antivirus, antispyware and firewall are you using? Can you get a command prompt and type ping s.ytimg.com and see if anything is returned?

In Firefox, can you go to Tools->Error Console and click Clear. Then go back to YouTube and try and viw a video. Go back to the error console and click the Errors button and look through the errors. Particularly look for ones that start [Exception..."Javascript

Let me know what it says.

yup pinging work, got all replys. in the error console i get a few errors but no exceptions.

edit: i have just watched a video on another website that was linked from youtube and it worked fine, so i really don't understand why the youtube site itself won't work

Have to put my hands up here - it's beat me!

My thinking was that maybe your antivirus / antispyware / firewall is blocking Javascript / Flash from the YouTube site. That's why I asked what software you were using. Depending on how the other site is embedding the YouTube video it may skip that site and allow you to watch the video.

Try uninstalling flash following these instructions.

    Link to Adobe

And then download & Install the latest version.

It could be Nortonthat isstopping the Javascript / Flash from the YouTube site. It's the only thing I can think of! Check the Norton logs.

i have had this problem repeatedly,

apparently the java company about 8 months was taken over, and the company had changed some code in the new updates, which conflicts with certain past updates.

it has happened to me god knows how many times.

the only solution i have found is this patch.

download it and KEEP it and just reinstall when the problem arises again. it takes about five seconds to install.

    hope this helps.

Ok, i uninstalled and reinstalled both Java and flash (which seemed to solve some other problems like facebook and hotmail not working right, now they have gone wrong again!) and also installed above patch but Youtube will still not work.
Can someone check it is not just me and the website is working ok?

Anything else I can try maybe? Thanks so much for everyone's help btw

    YouTube is fine, just checked.

YouTube uses JavaSCRIPT not Java. Javascript is part of the browser and can't be installed / reinstalled.

My bet it's Norton that is causing the problem - did you check the logs? Try disabling Norton and see if it YouTube works then.

I had exactly the same problem with a customer yesterday and it was cured by downloading the standalone Flash installer here then. Let us know if that works.

EDIT: Oops, just realised this is the same thing that K Dragon recommended above. Sorry!
