    Does anybody out there have a recipe for Bere Bannock?

    Thanks Unicorn. I'd tried Googling but without success. Maybe I'll have a bit more luck with the baking!

    Default Bere Bannocks

    2 1/2ozs Beremeal
    2 1/2ozs Self Raising Flour
    1 Level teasp Bicarbonate of Soda
    1 Rounded teasp Cream of Tartar
    1/4 tsp Salt
    1/2tsp Veg oil extra for greasing
    5fl ozs Cold water

    Mix Beremeal, flour, soda, tartar, and salt in a bowl make a well in the centre add the oil and cold water to a soft dough

    tip on to a board dusted with little Beremeal and shape gently into a bannock shape about 6ins diameter -3/4 -1ins thick

    Heat griddle or heavy frying pan grease lightly

    slap on the bannock cook without touching for 5 mins
    then turn and cook for about 4 mins
    both top and bottom will be scorched all over
    place on a wire loosely cover with a tea towel to keep the top soft
    leave until cool before splitting open

    For those of you who have been searching for bere meal, the shop in Traill Street now has it in. Sorry, don't know what the shop is called. It's the old fashioned shop a couple of doors along from the Bistro.
    I was on the point of giving up, having looked for the bere meal in all the likely local shops as well as shops in Inverness and Aberdeen.
