There was a little dog
There was a little dog,
Heigh ho,heigh ho.
And his body was long .
And his legs were low.
And his coat was thin,
And his eyes were bright.
And he went by himself
For a walk one night.
Now would n't you think.
Heigh ho, heigh ho,
That even a little
House dog would know,
That it was n't good .
To walk by himself
Alone in the wood?
Just what occurred,
Heigh ho, heigh ho.
Or whom he met,
When the moon was low,
I cannot say,
For I might not be right:
But I do know that now.
He stays home at night!
From "Dog stories," by Elizabeth Coatsworth.
Have loved this since early childhood and every time I see a dachshund I still have a quiet giggle.

That is such a cute poem, LIZZ! Thanks for sharing it with us!
I figured it was about a dachshund, even before I came to the end of your post. Perhaps he narrowly escaped the wolf of Little Red Riding Hood fame!
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!
