Talking Being retired is no fun

    Being retired is no fun!
I seem to have always to run,
Do this then do that and the other.
By the end of the day I'm all of a bother.

    I've cleaned, dusted and shone.
The windows gleam second to none.
Turned out the cupboards and drawers.
Even got round to cleaning the floors!

The garden is looking a treat,
With flowers beds ever so neat.
    I've pruned all the shrubs,
Even sorted the planters and tubs.

Not a button is missing from off of a shirt,
I've cleared all the cobwebs and dirt.
The nets are all washed, gleaming and white.
The cat's moved out 'cos he took a fright.

I've tossed out the clothes no longer I wear,
I've even been down the sides of the chair.
My work box is sorted and neat,
I've scrubbed the spa for me feet.

I've answered my letters and mail,
Even groomed the cat with no tail.
I'm working harder now ever before.
Think I'll go back for a rest to the store!

    Default Being retired.....

Oh, but, being retired is the greatest of fun
From the time you get up till the setting sun
But you’re right, you don’t sit, you just run and run
To fit it all in and get it all done.

No more are you working from nine to five.
And aren’t you lucky you’re still alive ?
As you wait in the rain for the kids to arrive
Regretting the day that you learned to drive.

Cos you ferry them here and ferry them there
You pick up and drop off anytime anywhere
It’s ballet or football or swimming – don’t care !
Oh When and Oh when, can I sit in MY chair.

But my chair has been hijacked by some little chap,
Who climbs up when I’m resting to sit on my lap
With fingers so sticky – then little mishap
Don’t fuss now dear grannie – no need to flap.

Tomorrow it’s shopping and return my book
Is the library open, must have a look.
I’ll start some more crochet – must buy a new hook.
Then lock the doors, close the curtains -is this some fluke !

    Goodnight .

    ....like it
The miracle is not to fly in the air,
or to walk on the water, but to walk on the earth.

I love both of your poems, LIZZ and Trinkie! Well done!

You're both busy ladies, even though you're retired
No wonder by evening you're both really tired!
But it's all this activity that keeps you so young
You're a good example to folk you're among.

LIZZ, I'll bet you're the envy of those on your street
The way that your garden is looking so neat
"How clean is your house?" - you'd put those ladies to shame
For you've beaten them both at their house cleaning game!

And dear Grannie Trinkie's a grandmother on wheels
She knows just how a busy taxi driver feels
Her grandchildren love her to bits I am sure
I suspect she's quite feisty, instead of demure!

    But I’m very demure
    Of that I’m quite sure
I’m timid and bashful and shy,
If you were to say ‘ BOO ‘
    I think that you’d rue
For I would just sit down and cry !

I’m the one in the corner
    Not caring to mix
With others who’re up to all kinds of tricks.
I’m the one who’s not smiling
    Though somewhat beguiling.
How I wish I could get some kicks !

If only I were able I’d stand on a table
And dance the whole night long
    I’d carry a rose, a red one - suppose
I’d start to sing a song.
Of Cigarettes and Whisky and Wild, Wild Women,

Then I’d join your happy throng !

    Reflection on rejection...

If you wont let me in
    I’ll think it a sin
And jump from the highest dome
    But I canna climb
So I’ll sit here and rhyme
    At home, wi anither pome.

With a lovely smile that's disarming!

    Even I can be shy
I do not tell a lie
But I'm getting a little bit bolder
With every year that I'm older!

I'd get up on the table
    Indeed, if I was able
And dance with you Trinkie, dear
    Then hopefully, folk would cheer!
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!

The scene is set in a room in a bar,
The table, a rose, some drink in a jar
    Twa lassies are ready
    Can be seen from afar,
But who will give them a leg up ??

You just got to enjoy each day
was your choice to go that way
some do not have that option
but you will love it soon someday

A clean House and clean drapes
    the windows well who cares
Are they clean well does it matter
the sun will shine on them whatever

The garden is the great pleasure
as the sun does shine on the shrubs
The Bulbs are going back for now
we cultivate to reap some more

In the pond we have A Frog
he lives beneath the deck we think
    The Irises and Tulips grow
and in the the pond the Lilies start to grow

    so hopefully come summer
    we will have great show
    retirement impossed or inflicted
we reap of surely what we sow
