    Default Double Spacing

I wonder why I get double spacing when I copy and paste to an email ? It's most annoying.
Any ideas as to how I can overcome this problem ?

    Thanking you

    Hi Trinkie,

What are you copying it from?

I usually type something in Windows Blank so that I can edit at my leisure !
It only happens when I paste to an email.

    Thank you Blueivy

    Hi Trinkie,

Not 100% sure what you mean by Windows Blank.

If you paste something into an email and it's not looking the way it should it's generally because you have copied the formatting of the text as well. Sometimes when you copy the formatting it's not fully understood by the other application and it 'tries' to interpret it.

There are two ways around this. Use a program called PureText (which is what I use) and then use Windows Key+V to paste it in (and that removes all the formatting and just pastes the text). Alternatively copy the text from it's location and paste it into Notepad. Copy the text form Notepad and then copy it to the email. Notepad does not store any formatting so it's safe to use.

This all assumes that the formatting is the problem. Give it a go and see if it fixes it. If not, come back and we can go through some more steps.
    Kind regards,

Thank you for your prompt reply I will try to do as you suggest.

Could I be using Microsoft word? The little box has
' W blank ' on it - but I see at the bottom of the screen it says Microsoft word !

    Thanks again

    It'll be Word.

Copying and pasting between Word and an email should be okay though. Assuming the email is Outlook / Outlook Express. Word formatting can be funny though.

Give the things I suggest I try and come back to let us know. I use PureText all the time so it just sits here running all the time. I'd be a little lost without it.

    I've done it ! Success.
I used the Note Pad method and it worked.

Many thanks Blueivy - did you spot I'm not altogether au fait with computers and the language ?

Any time you hit the return key, which produces a Paragraph Mark, in Word it will produce double spacing in an email. I'm assuming you don't do this at the end of every line, or do you? If you do that will give you double spacing between every line in an email. Normally you would only use the Return key for a new paragraph as Word automatically moves to the next line when one is full.

If you use the Manual Line Break instead of the Return key, you won't get double spacing in an email. To do this, hold down the shift key before pressing Return.

You should have a button in the toolbar at the top of the page in Word that looks like this ¶ - it's the Show/Hide button and it shows what formatting you have used. A Paragraph Mark looks the same - ¶ - and a Manual Line Break looks like a bent arrow. If you copy some text out of an email into Word and click on the Show/Hide button you'll see.

    Thank you Badger,

I appear to have solved the problem by using Notepad, as Blueivy suggested

The double spacing occurred when I had 'pasted' a poem for example, to an email.

However I'll copy off your instructions too, just in case I run into this problem again.

AND many thanks for taking time to help me out !
