Looking for dog owner help required..

Hi i was wondering if there are any dog owners out there to help me with my dog. Bingo is a great dog but i am not sure what he is like with other dogs..When i walk him if i see another dog i place his muzzle on so i feel safe that he cannot hurt one. What i am looking for is someone who would be prepared to help socialise him.They have to be sure that there own dog is calm and a non violent dog.. It would be great if we could get as many dogs together and maybe help eachother out. Dog walking club would be handy.. I myself have a similar problem and would also benefit from the help and support of others in a way that you are suggesting. My Dog also wears a muzzle when out walking, just for peace of mind as I would hate for him to hurt someone else's much- loved pet. A chance to socialise with people and other dogs would do him the world of good to help make him a better more balanced dog.

I dont think that would help.She is female and i know he has no problem with them its mainly male dogs that i am not sure about....He would probably like bubbles for her sweet scent...if you know what i mean....But i think we should try to get a dog walking group going for our dogs good. They need to feel part of a pack....

Why dont you take him to the dog training classes that were advertised on here short ago. You'll get help there from the trainer and there will be other dogs for him to socialise with.

I would love too, the only thing is i dont think throwing him into a class full of dogs would help..He is a very big dog, over 40k in weight and stands 35 in in height. If i took him where any other dogs started barking it would take me and the hubby to hold him back.I want to start off slowly with one or two dogs and build up...

I believe in going in at the deep end but not when it comes to the safety of others. I would be glad to do it when i am more confident that he is fine with dogs

Milo is strange. Its hard to explain really. I suppose that you can expect to like everyone you meet, but with him the level of, I suppose, dislike he shows differs. We met a chocolate lab a while ago now and Milo was completely fine with him. Then, with my sister's dog he doesn't seem to know how to interact with him, but he doesn't show agression. Then there was a Weimarena we used to see out on walks and Milo HATED him. it was really strange.

I have been working with Milo and he is listening to me more than he used to and I can hold his attention for longer without "bribes" I have met a few dogs when out on walks, but only for a short time as we pass each other.

I dont think that milo is strange just probably misunderstood. Most dogs bark at people out of fear. They learn that people and other dogs go away if they get to close.After a while she would have thought this is so much easier than facing the object coming near her...I WOULD LIKE TO HELP YOU WITH HER AND HER WITH MY BINGO....

My dog Jaq is quite sociable, but it depends on the other dog. Some dogs seem to think he would like to be mounted and Jaq just wont have it. He lets out a growl ' im a boy, mate get off and leave me alone' and then he'll warn them off. Other times he'll bound up and socialise lovely. I can usually judge the situation before it happens - only once have I made a mistake, one morning at around 8.45- our usual 'burly on the hill' before I rush off to work a woman and her dog- on a lead- were walking. Jaq ran over to her dog and the owner picked her dog up by the collar to stop Jaq going near , she never spoke and my dog was very confused by this! He eventually came back to me, but it makes me wary of dog owners! Justine, I'm sure my dog would be fine with yours.

Thanks Justine I would really apprieciate the help. Its funny that you should say about the fear. He does seem to watch everyone very carefully. I didn't want to make excuses for myself for his behaviour, but when he was younger I think about 1 year or younger I was staying at my sisters house with him. I got home late because I was in the school play (reason I was staying at my sister's it was closer to the school) I took him out for a walk and was approached by a drunken man on the street. The way he was behaving towards me was very frightening and I think Milo picked up on this and began barking and growling at the man. The man quickly retreated but continued to follow me until I got to my sisters. I wonder if maybe he is still in some way thinking he is protecting me from harm?

i rememeber from experience that Bingo generally got on with the other dogs he met when we walked him, he just wanted to play, hed do alot of jumping on them and the silly front end down/back end up with daft grin on his face (of course Lurch was never impressed and would pushing him into bushes, dispite being smaller!!). i think hes a very social dog so getting together with other will probbably do him some good unless the other dogs bully him as he was also not a dominant type so would happily allow other dogs to mount him!!!!

well thanks to a kind fellow orger, i have established that i have succeeded in all my months of establishing the boundaries and limitations for bingo.I felt so proud today when he came across another very dominant but confused dog, who turns out to be a lovely sweet dog, he was able to just lie and relax on his lead of course and not really bother about the other dog.I can now have more confidence and that can only make for a happier relationship..The other dog well, people who know him are definately reading him wrong...So as i have now established what kriklah has said about bingo, i am more confident that i am his pack leader and he listens to me.He thrives for my affection but it does not come cheap...I am going for the backpack so he will feel as though he has a purpose when i am out with him..I will always muzzle him until i am 100% sure about his reaction towards other dogs..I am proud of him and myself...
