which laptop for someone who likes pc games?

I bought the Gateway MX8716b from tesco in Wick for £499. it has not too bad a spec:

2Gb RAM
120Gb Hard Drive
Intel Core 2 Duo (2 x 1.73 Ghz)
17" Widescreen
Wifi Enabled

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
The only thing that would let this notebook down for gaming is the graphics capabilities.

I had a look on the dell website and used there customising tool to build your own. Using a similar spec as above but with better graphics comes in around £719..The model I customised was the Inspiron 1720.

Then there is the top model from Dell (Insprion XPS M1730) that comes in around £2300:

possible that gateway one (MX8716b) from tescos @ £499. As I said the graphics are not the greatest for 3D stuff but it is a good laptop.

If it's full bown commercial titles (such as Call of Duty, Football/Championship Manager, The Sims, Half Life, etc.) i.e. games which require a lot of CPU & graphics processing, then you'll need as much power as possible. Lazytowns Gateway or customised Inspiron 1720 recommendations are decent enough specification.

If however it's going to be card, strategy or other games which are not dependent on response speeds or hungry graphics processing, then pretty much any laptop will do. If that's the case then I'd simply recommend staying clear of Celeron & Sempron processors.

Your best bet though (for ready built systems) is dell. You can choose a PC to buy. Or you can choose it as a base and add on extras.

I'll look around though.

Edit: Oh! Also try ebay. They have some good ones. (Get all my computer stuff from there)
