Unhappy What on earth is a buddy/ignore list?

As a new member I am a little puzzled by some of the terminology.
Also what is a vB code?

vB code is short for vBulletin Code. It is used to format text:

Your buddy list is where you can add the names of Orgers who you consider your friends. When you look at the list of who's online they appear with a + next to their names, hence making them more prominent.

To my knowledge I don't think they know they're on your buddy list.
