Off to see Van tonight at the Edinburgh Playhouse. Hope he's in a better mood than the last two times I've seen him. Still has, arguably, the finest (white) soul voice in the world.

Hmmm... The Belfast Cowboy was in sombre mood last night, Trix. Kept his band intimidated, discarded tunes like empty crisp packets, and sang his heart out. The usual really. In fact, it was pretty much the same set as his last two performances in Edinburgh. Still, it was nice to hear his singing voice again, and the plus point was the Playhouse's clampdown on mobile phone photography, meaning we got to watch the performance in peace, with no fear of distraction.

Not a huge Van Morrison fan, but Astral Weeks - and everything he did with Them - are some of my favourites.

Don't expect any audience participation by the way in Inverness
