BUDGE family

Hi, I am doing a family history project and would appreciate any help or info on the BUDGE family. We believe they were from the Lybster area. My Great Grandmother was Catherine Budge who would have been born about 1856. She married Malcolm MasIsaac and moved to Glasgow, but we think the remainder of her family stayed in the Lybster area. We know there is a link to the famous "Donald Budge" who was the Wimbledon tennis champion, we think her brothers Grandson. We know that in 1881 Catherine was already married to Malcolm but I suppose it is possible that she may also be on the 1881 census as living in Caithness. We are sure there were several siblings. My grandfather was William Budge born in Clyth, Lybster, Caithness in 1880
December 30th.
He was the illegitimate son of William Budge and Margaret Sutherland - they married in 1883.
There were seven other children.

Records given to me some years ago show:

Catherine Budge born in Lybster in 1856 marr. James Sutherland in 1878 in Wick.

Her father was Alexander Budge born 1822 - d 1882
married Catherine Sinclair in 1850

This Alexander was born in Occumpster and died in Lybster. Boat carpenter and Fisherman.

There were 8 children.

I'm told this is the line that DONALD Budge comes from.....Cousin to my grandfather.

I have a newspaper obituary of Donald Budge (John Donald Budge born June 13th 1915. died in January 2000)
His father was as a printer and had played football for Glasgow Rangers but moved his family to California.
His son contacted me in the late 1980s.

Hi Freda, I am a little confused by the info you have given me. My Great Gran was Catherine Budge who was born 1856, she married Malcolm MacIsaac. So the Catherine Budge you mention married to James Sutherland is a different one. I am very interested in the info you have written about, especially Donald Budge the tennis player. If so, it's wonderful to see that it's serving to help others. It should also be stated that I compiled this info from searches made through ScotsOrigins (now defunct) and that it should only be used as a guideline and not as gospel.
