    Part-time Business / Post Office manager, Watten Shop Group Ltd.

    Do you have the drive and ambition to develop the Watten Shop for the benefit of the local and wider community? We are seeking a part-time manager to help run our new community venture and expand it into not just a successful shop but a thriving village hub. With opportunities to learn and develop new skills and take on new challenges.

    Part-time, approx. 21 hrs per week plus holiday/sickness cover as required.
    Salary: £26k (pro rata).

    Essential
    Appreciation of the importance of the village shop for the local community.
    Passion and drive to further the Watten Shop for the benefit of the local community.
    Over the age of 18 (due to the sale of cigarettes/alcohol).
    Demonstrate initiative and be forward thinking.
    Excellent communication skills.
    Excellent organisational skills.
    Work well independently and with others.
    Experience in at least one of the following - retail, customer service, management, marketing, business, finance, Post Office.

    Desirable:
    Experience of supervising volunteers.

    Duties will include but not be limited to:

    • Overseeing the running of the Watten shop as a community-run venture.
    • Developing the premises into a thriving community hub at the heart of the village.
    • Reporting to the Watten Shop Group committee at regular meetings and communicating with the board outside of committee meetings as required.
    • Working with and supporting the Shop Manager in the day to day running of the shop.
    • Supervising volunteers working in the shop.
    • Training new staff and volunteers.
    • Developing and expanding the business with an emphasis on local produce and suppliers, in order to meet the needs of the community.
    • Engaging with the local community and visitors through relevant communications and meetings.
    • Promoting the shop and its services through ongoing marketing and promotions, including the website and social media.
    • Managing finances on a regular basis, such as ordering, dealing with invoices, banking takings etc.
    • Being the postmaster/mistress for the Post Office.
