    Default Wick

Wonderful old photos . I love them all - do hope some of the men will be given names before long !

I think I remember the Cycle Depot being there when I was little !!

I love the skyline of the one going up Shore Road - how often I have walked up there !

Well this fellow Thursonian has a love of nostalgia too, plasticjock. I'm enjoying the photos of old Wick almost as much as the ones of old Thurso!

Would love to see more of your auld Week photies, please.
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!

Stop it! Ye'll get me into trouble.
As it happens, the pictures were taken a few days after pay-as-you-leave buses were introduced to the toon...so I've been told. :^P

1925 - Final picture. Pulteney Harbour

All the pictures I have posted came from a book called Caithness 1925-1926 written and photographed by Herbert Sinclair.

    Default Wick photos

    More wonderful pictures !
    Very many thanks.

I love the 'Elsie Budge' one - I knew the family, Elsie and her father lived in Bexley Terrace- overlooking the bay.
    It's such an atmospheric picture.

I must look out for that book, it's quite a treasure.

    Best wishes,
    Trinkie

Love the photos. Can anyone give me more info about post 293, Market Street 1925? I see that the Crown Hotel has turned into the Crown Stores, presumably because Wick had gone dry and the family needed to survive? My Grandmother, Elizabeth Houston Campbell (born 1906) was one of the family who owned and ran the Crown but she left Wick in 1923 with her mother (Henrietta Sutherland), brother Sandy and sister Nellie. They came to Edinburgh.
I'd love to know more about what happened in the intervening years and also be delighted to hear from any of the descendants of the family.
