Trinkie, I'm glad the photos brought back some childhood memories for you. Being from the 'Week' side as bairns we didn't venture over to 'Poltney' often on our own. We did go as far as the harbour on occasion. However, we often went to John Cormack's for chips after the Guides on a Friday night. Our sledging was done on Shore Lane, although I don't remember it happening too often. I think my sledge came from the saw mill in Union Street.

Any idea Betty when these were taken? I'm from the "backside" and remember the first time I went to Wick on my own - it seemed like such an adventure! So for you was the same in reverse, no doubt.

I'm told by a friend that they might have been taken in the late 20's or early 30's as the houses were demolished in the late 30's. That particular change shelter was replaced by another wooden one before a concrete one was built in the late 50's.

I too remember my first venture over to 'Poltney' without a parent. We went with the school to the Breadalbane picture house with the school and had to find our own way home!
