Thanks for sharing those with us Betty, I really enjoyed looking at them! Are there any dates on the postcards?
I am living for today, always remembering yesterday, and looking forward to tomorrow!
Sorry Sporran, I don't have dates for either of the photos.
If you check out the postcard section of this site you will see more old photos of the town.
Thank you Betty,
That's a great picture taken from the Parish Church. Great to see the washing on the line ! You cant beat the Solar Drying !!
I think the area going towards the Bridge was called the Drying Green, but it's mostly built up now.
Any more treasures ?
Trinkie
Thanks Trinkie. Glad you liked it. I thought the area was called the Bleaching Green, but I could very well be wrong.
I had forgotten all about the Post Card section until fender made mention of it (thanks fender) and have posted two duplicate photos so I will have to check there before posting any more.
You're right Betty, It was called the Bleaching Green !

Tricia, if you look back to previous pages on this thread you will find lists of some of the people in these pictures......
Dempster Street - no date
Post Office - no date
Those two postcards you've added are great, Betty. You come up with some really good ones!

The dry dock.
The 'new harbour'.
Storm Wick Bay 1912
Thank you Betty - more great pictures.
I love the one of the new harbour. It's a favourite view of Pultney and the Pilots' House and Poltney Braes where I played many years ago !
I cant see the Power Station with it's big chimney, that might help to date the picture. We played on the Braes and sometimes we were given a fish from a boat just in, and then we would roast it on the hot pipes at the back of the Power Station. Delicious !
The dark house in Smith Terrace could have been where Jessie Clyne eventually had her Bakers Shop - much later than the picture though. There used to be a little draper's shop further along towards the P.O.
Mrs Flett's shop was behind the Pilots House, on the corner of Huddart Street. Just out of shot was where Mr More the Pilot lived, further around still, in Bexley Terrace was John Cormack's Fish and Chip Shop !
In the centre of your picture is the Shore Road where all the Poltney bairns used to sledge - some failing to stop and thus ending up in the water, going home soaking wet and getting a good telling off from their father ! I wonder if anyone reading this will be brave enough to own up to this escapade ?
Many thanks,
Trinkie
