    Default 1861 Census

Can anyone tell me where I can access the 1861 census. It seems to be the only year I can not find.
I am in Australia and would help my research to access it.
    Where is it??????????

    thanks

    Whoops!
    I forgot where.
I am researching Wick, Latheron and Bower. My genealogy society in South Australia has 1851 on microfilm but no details of 1861.
    thanks for reply

Ah, the 1861 census returns for all Caithness were microfilmed in 1952 and should be freely available.

They are slowly being transcribed and are available in book or digital formats for some parishes and some years and Indexes to various parishes and years are being produced
by the Highland Archives in book form.

I have an index to the 1861 census for Latheron.

    Try this website:

    http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

You have to pay to access information, but you get to see scans of the original documents.

Edit: Oops- just noticed the 1861 census isn't on there, but perhaps the statutory registers and old parish registers will be of some use anyway
