Default Local high schools mentioned online recently

There was an article in the "Scottish Sun" online the other day which displays the performances of every secondary school in the Scotland ranked on the percentage of pupils attaining five Highers in 2020 (original source of the data was the Times, but I think their link would be behind a paywall).

(League position 2020, School, Council, 2019, 2020, League position 2019)

    174 Thurso High School Highland Council 22% 38% 303
    277 Wick High School Highland Council 23% 27% 296

Quite an improvement from Thurso High School to go from three hundred and third place based on their 2019 Higher results up to one hundred and seventy fourth place in the league. Also an improvement from Wick High School. Congratulations to the pupils and staff at both schools.

Secondary schools have been ranked in The Times and Sunday Times High School League Table ranked by how many pupils secured five or more Highers in 2023:

Thurso High School: 29%, 237th place
Wick High School: 20%, 312th place

The places in that table do not tell us much on their own. Considering that wick has several areas listed in the Scottish Index of multiple deprivation. Or that some places like Edinburgh have higher numbers of various levels of private schools where affluence buys more education.

Income levels may also point to other influences and Highland has below average income levels.

There are many other factors affecting the outcomes in schools.

The bare results in exams are just one table.
