These photos are all amazing thanks so much for sharing.
I see in the earliest photo looking down from George Square that the house opposite tescos (a b&b now I think) is there. Is there any info on that, it is very gothic in appearance.
Also the one from the town hall square 1970, has the street been pedestrianised (sp?) already?
Thanks again for the photos, I have one old postcard from the castle 1910 that was used which i found even more interesting. My mum and family have some photos of the castle that I must check out to see if they are of any interest. My grandfather was the gardener there.

Notice the trawler below the Bishops castle. I was talking to a guy in his 70s and he remembers that trawler there. Also in view is the fever hospital.
