    Default Tailor/Ropemaker/Sailmaker 1890`s

Does anyone have any information on a tailors or a ropemakers and sailmakers shop/business around 1880`s and 1890`s in Wick.
Possibly run by MacLeod family members.
They worked in these trades and I wondered if they had premises in Wick.
    Thanks Mary Helen

    Default Ropeworks

    Hello Mary Helen,

I think there was a Ropeworks in Brown's Place in the 1940s.

However, if you search for Ropeworks+Wick+Caithness
you will find on caithness.org a most interesting story written by A MacLeod ''Wartime Boyhood in Wick'' he mentions Grants Ropeworks.

    Good luck,
    Trinkie

    Thanks Trinkie,
    Interesting reading.
I hope I can find such information going back to 1880`s/1890`s and my family.

hi Mary Helen, i know for a fact that there was a ropemaker,s in Loch St Wick. straight across from the entrance to the francis st club. its the old building from richards old petrol pumps to way up into Loch street. the main building was torn down & is now used as a graveyard for richards old reject cars.
in fact i have an elderly friend that used to work there during ww2
