Job Summary
Lochshell Engineering are looking for a Graduate level Estimator with Structural & Civil Engineering knowledge to support the team on multi-disciplined projects.
In this role, you will require to be self-motivated, with the ability to support fellow team members, work within an experienced steelwork fabrication, civils and marine construction team and meet Client requirements and deliver construction projects within agreed costs and timescales. You will be responsible for providing financial input to a wide range of projects with key Clients including Local Authorities and other public bodies as well as private companies around the UK.
You may be based in the Lochshell Engineering offices in Wick or be based on-site, potentially at any location within the UK. Flexibility to travel will form a part of the role.
The Role

  • Manage enquiries, find new clients in targeted sectors;


  • Produce accurate estimates for Structural & Civil Engineering based projects;


  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors. Review / manage labour and plant rates;


  • Prepare Contract documents for procurement of sub-Contractors and administer Contracts whilst acting as the Principal Contractor, with the possibility of being engaged as a sub-Contractor and when engaging sub-Contractors;


  • Provide cost-control throughout the lifecycle of multi-discipline projects;


  • Communication and liaison with Clients, their Representatives and sub-Contractors in relation to the financial aspects of projects; and


  • Assist in the preparation of tenders (programming, cost estimation, resourcing, preparation of written quality/technical input, etc).


  • The Estimator will liaise directly with the Managing Director and seek approval of all outputs. The Estimator will provide a weekly written report to the Managing Director, which shall include details of their tasks completed in the week and a financial summary of live projects and bids.

Minimum Requirements - Required Skills and Experience

  • Role-specific experience with and administration of Contracts (NEC3/4 ECC, Short Form, ICE Minor Works etc);


  • Experience in delivering projects over a range of types, costs and complexity;


  • Working in multi-disciplinary teams; and


  • Experience in the UK Maritime industry.


  • Ability to work as part of a team;


  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;


  • Excellent skills in use of MS Office suite of software, particularly in use of Excel, Project or experience with Primavera;


  • Work to deadlines and good time management;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Estimation.
