    Adaptive and Collaborative Communities Project Officer – Caithness x 2 posts

    Duration: 21 months fixed term
    Hours: Full Time (36 hours per week)
    Salary: 26,000 per annum
    Responsible to: Project Coordinator
    Based: CVG Offices in Wick

    The post is funded by the Aspiring Communities Fund and is supported by the Scottish Government and European Social Fund (ESF). The Aspiring Communities Fund supports those in in our most deprived and fragile communities in the Highlands and Islands to develop and deliver long-term local solutions that address local priorities and needs, increase active inclusion and build on the assets of local communities to reduce poverty and to enable inclusive growth.

    The aim of this post is to work across the Caithness area to support local groups to deliver projects that will tackle current challenges being faced and help to reduce inequalities as identified by the communities themselves.

    The post will involve attendance at meetings which may involve both evening and weekend work. Therefore, a high degree of flexibility may be required in working hours. There will also be travel to meetings in different parts of both Caithness and Sutherland.
    Key Tasks:
    1. Establish pro-active links with existing community organisations and statutory agencies working within communities across Caithness.
    2. Define what projects will look like.
    3. Assist with feasibility and business plans if required.
    4. Share information and findings with Sutherland Project staff.
    5. Assist in arranging Caithness gathering to share information.
    6. Attend meetings of groups as appropriate and explore the scope of community groups/statutory agencies working together in partnership projects to meet identified needs of the community.
    7. Compile reports and plans as required.

    Job Specification:
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
    • Understanding of inequalities in rural areas
    • The ability to quickly connect and establish a good relationship with community groups and stakeholder organisations
    • Have a strong understanding of community led development and be able to engage with all sections of the community
    • Strong IT skills including statistical analysis if required, compiling and writing reports and strong presentation skills
    • Be self-motivated and driven to achieve current and future expectations
    • Be a team player and use your own initiative
    • Have at least two years’ experience of working within community development or a relevant sector
    • Car driver with full, clean driving licence and access to a car for business use

    Job Specification:
    • Have a strong understanding of the community needs across Caithness including socio-economic impacts facing the area both now and, in the future
    • Knowledge of the Community Empowerment Act and how it relates to Community Planning
    • Knowledge of the third sector in Highland

    Closing date: Monday 1st June at 5pm.
    Interviews will take place week commencing 8th June 2020.
    Job start date: 1st July 2020

    The role will be based in the offices of Caithness Voluntary Group in Wick and may include a mixture of office and home working.
