Should we reduce the right to vote from the open ended upper age to 67 . Maybe only those how are in work and pay tax should have the right to vote . It's a bit like the lottery ,if you can't buy a ticket you don't play .
Taking 8.5 million economically inactive people out of the system would make for interesting election night results. The SNP would be history for starters.
We will all probably be lucky to live much beyond 67 anyway, now that the new immigration controls are coming into place and will cause staff shortages in the care and health sectors.
That will help with population reduction needed to combat climate change.
Dozy, would I be allowed to vote, over retirement age but technically still classed as self employed, probably still pay more tax than most workers in Scotland?
I think you are right to say only people who work and pay tax should be allowed to vote, along with anyone receiving disability benefit, so the handful of workers in Glasgow Southside can get a decent MSP.
Most people over 67 are still paying tax.
HEADWARK
I agree,Alrock. Income tax and NI are not the only methods governments have of taking money out of our pockets.
unless you buy everything 2nd hand and dodge council tax then you are an active contributor.
Also surely at 67 your entire working life, contributing to the system must count for something.
Whats next, exclude all non working benefit recipients from the vote?
Not that Nic would go for that as its her main demographic.
