Burger King: New plant-based burger 'not for vegans'

When you cant go into a burger joint and order food that is completely meat free and hasn't even seen a passing meat delivery truck?

I share their pain. I once went into a vegan only salad takeaway joint, and asked for a salad that was completely free of plant material, due to my carnivorism. They said they couldn't do such a dish and showed me the door! Disgraceful. I mean, in this day and age, surely the vegan food outlets should be made to cater for carnivores?

Burger King's idea of a meat free burger is a good one, just a shame they are so thick to believe vegetarians will eat it after it is cooked on a grill used for cooking meat. Totally pointless for Burger King to do this. They could easily have a vegan burger heated in a microwave and therefore meat free cooking - and then at least people looking for a meat free meal would have some options. 5-10% of the population have gone meat free so why loose business when that market exists?

Not everyone is like orkneycadian who I suppose feels that eating vegetables is evil …. that will be the next thing to start - what will it be called when people claim that eating vegetables is against their ethical beliefs?

    Jainism, for example, prohibits
    the
    consumption of root
    vegetables
, such as carrots or beets, since those parts are believed to house
    the
souls of plants You couldn't make it up!

Interesting, I did not know that about Jainism - just thought they were about not killing insects and animals.

Plants probably have going on than we want to admit to (if you talk to a plant it grows quicker and is often healthier), and on other planets they may represent the higher form of intelligence, so we should all keep an open mind on this. Don't believe me? then check out https://www.education.com/science-fa...ing-to-plants/ and set up the experiment for yourself (or School) to run.

Sounds like 'Day of the Triffids' was closer to reality than we might think!

I guess my rather veiled point was "Why would a vegan go to a burger joint, and expect vegan options?" Its a place that serves meat products. Like a steakhouse, etc. My attempt at irony was to highlight that (in general) vegans don't cater for meat eaters, and asking for a meat based salad in a vegan salad bar would be preposterous. So not sure why expecting totally vegan in a burger joint isn't preposterous.

I guess its a bit like how you'll really struggle to get a pork curry in a UK curry house. But probably end up inadvertently eating halal chicken, lamb or beef bought from Tesco

Pork made from plants launched by Impossible Foods

OK, so you want to only eat poor defenseless plants. But why do you want them to look and taste like the meat you so detest? Why not just plug your ears (so you can't hear it scream) and bite into a tomato?

Burger King missed a trick, they should have marketed this burger as a 'climate change' burger. One for those that love meat but want to do a small thing to reduce co2.

That is, if you belive that cattle production is a huge climate change problem and we should all switch to a plant based diet.

I hope Greta is suitably impressed.

It's a nice thought Goodfellers. But how would vegans reconcile all that extra carbon cost arising from pandering to their demands? The separate prep and cooking areas and equipment in each burger joint? Keeping a separate grill hot for their food? And the ultimate paradox for them - assuming the grills run on gas - cooking their burgers using fuel made from the decomposed bodies of animals? And transported to the joint by trucks running on liquified dead animals?

I think I would rather have neither. Local butcher meat, then you know what you are getting.

    Maybe I am missing something.....

When you are a vegan, how do you wear a kilt, guilt free, when the kilt it's made of polyester, which is made from oil, which it's made from dead animals?

Kilt maker himself says his kilts are
    "massively unsustainable for the environment".

So it seems you can't keep Greta happy by being a Scottish kilt wearing vegan then.

I'd like to know what the problem with wool is (for vegans). It's cruel NOT to shear sheep, anyone who has been around sheep on a warm sunny day knows that.

Do vegans cut their childrens hair, or shave, I wonder.

The other plainly obvious problem with "meat free" burgers is by simply entering a burger shop that cooks normal meat burgers you will be contaminated!. if you can smell burgers being cooked then you are breathing in/ingesting partcles of that burger.

Must be a terrible torture for vegans, getting your dangly bits rubbed all day by dead animals.
