Energy efficiency of built-in fridge/freezers
I've looked on the web and had no joy on this (not very interesting) subject. Maybe someone can help me.
I'm getting a fitted kitchen and was planning to get a built-in fridge/freezer but then wondered if the cost of running it would be higher than a free-standing appliance? I've read somewhere that if you move a fridge out from the wall it uses less power (because the warm air can circulate away) but you can't do that if it's stuffed up against the wall inside a cupboard.
I even called a kitchen supplier to ask if there were vents in the cupboard above the appliance but they didn't have a clue.
I can't see how an A-rated fridge/freezer inside a cupboard can run at the same cost as an A-rated freestanding one, which kind of makes the ratings useless?? It sounds pretty mundane but my electricity bill is steadily going through the roof and fridges use a lot of power.
