I need a bit of help
How long does pork take to defrost? Supposed to be cooking dinner tonight when and I took pork out the freezer at 10am this morning!
Thanks in advance
If they are chops, get them separated as soon as you can. Put them in a plastic bag and soak them in warm water (not too hot because the outside will start to cook.) If you have a roast I would find a microwave and start working on the thawing now. Use very low energy, or the outside will cook. It could take 20 to 30 minutes.
Good luck.
They are pork escalopes.
hahah just read the back and it says to defrost for 12 hours in a fridge!!!
Not havin dinner till after 8 so will bung em in the microwave nearer the time!
Lord knows how I'm supposed to cook the meal If I can't even defrost the pork!! Time will tell!
I had a pork roast joint last weekend that took ages to defrost - I usually fill the sink up with really hot water and put the joint into a tin that will sit floating in the water - this speeds up the defrosting process without cooking the meat at all. If your roast is enormous and heavy, just fill up to the sides of the tin so it can sit on the bottom of the sink without any water getting on it.
Pork can be a dodgy one and has to be cooked really thoroughly - if you are unsure whether or not it is really defrosted, make sure you roast it on a lower oven temperature (150-160), giving it a nice slow cook. This will ensure that the middle is really cooked, and I would shove a skewer into it as well to see if the juice from the middle is nice and clear.
As a further gourmet tip from the Squiggle kitchen, sliced pears sauteed in a little butter and honey are lovely with roast pork.
If you haven't got a microwave your oven might have a defrost setting on it.
Good Luck!
This lady says.
quote '' never eat pork unless there's an ' R ' in the month ''
Old wives tale perhaps ?
I didn't know ladies were authorities on defrosting pork, don't mention nappies whatever you do!
let me consult the 'pork manual' i received at birth.......
