North Highland College is seeking to recruit a keen, enthusiastic and motivated individual to undertake a Modern Apprenticeship in Technical Support.

The successful applicant will be employed full time (35 hours per week) by the North Highland College throughout their apprenticeship and will be mentored towards achievement of a SVQ Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations and a SVQ Level 2 in Industrial Applications (Work Based Assessment). You will be paid £6 per hour for the duration of the apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship is a comprehensive training programme lasting for 2 years. As part of the Modern Apprenticeship the successful applicant will undertake the SVQ Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations and a SVQ Level 2 in Industrial Applications (Work Based Assessment).

Through both practical work undertaken as part of the job role and through study, the successful applicant will develop skills and be formally certificated in some of the following areas:

  • Complying with Statutory Regulations & Organisational Safety Requirements
  • Contribute to Effective Team Working
  • Using and Communicating Technical Information
  • General Maintenance Engineering Applications
  • Carrying out Scheduled Maintenance Activities on Mechanical Equipment
  • Carrying out Scheduled Maintenance Activities on Electrical Equipment
  • Slinging, Lifting & Moving Materials and Components


Successful achievement of the SVQ Level 2 in Industrial Applications will equip you with a qualification to potentially progress to a Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering at SCQF 6, a full time programme of study or to apply for job roles within engineering support.

Applicants should:

  • Have a passion for working to high standards, meeting deadlines and taking pride in your work
  • Have a keen interest in, and demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm for providing technical support to college staff and students.
  • Have undertaken study in science, technology, engineering or math’s (STEM) at SCQF level 4
  • Be able to demonstrate competence at SCQF level 4 in all or some of the 5 core skills - IT, Communication, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Working with Others.
