The 78th (Highland) Regiment of Foot was an antecedent regiment of the Seaforth Highlanders. Details are all on Wikipedia. 1842 might be significant since the regiment embarked for India in the April to participate in the First Anglo-Afghan war.
Whilst looking through some old marriage certificates dated 1842 in Thurso I noticed that the grooms employment was a private in the 78th regiment.
Any information on this regiment and where they were based would be helpful.Thank you.
