Default Delivery charges in rural areas

A debate on delivery charges took place in Westminster on 20th December 2017.

You can see the record of it at https://www.theyworkforyou.com/whall...3A25668#g441.2

The comments near the end that competition and the market place should take care of things do not ring true for most rural areas.

Jamie Stone's comment regarding Rowland Hill who introduced the Penny Black stamp and established a universal postal service with one price is spot on. Without government regulation I do not believe companies will not on their own sort this out. It is good to see a cross party approach being taken on this issue that affects all of us in rural areas. Let us hope they push on with things but it does not look as if the present government really want to bring in legislation. They are just footering around the edges.

Good to see that this type of thing is being debated ,but the buck does not always lay with the carriers charges. A friend ordered wooden swing and was charges £136.00 for delivery but when I spoke to the carrier he stated that the item only cost the seller £ 16.89 for delivery the extra £120 went into the sellers pocket. Theres a lot more going on here than the eye or sellers want you to see ,next the sellers with be calling it mis- postage , if the banks can get off with calling fraud mis- selling anything is possible. Just hoping it leads to a change for the better.
