Are you looking for a change, a challenge, and a breath of fresh air? NHS Highland is recruiting, and this is your chance to become part of something new, exciting, and completely different. The Rural Support Team in West Highland has been up and running for two years now, and the model is ready to expand to the North. You will be initially based in Dunbar Hospital & Riverbank Medical Practice, Thurso, but with opportunities in the future to work in other areas across Caithness and North West Sutherland.

North Highland (Caithness & Sutherland) is a beautiful part of Scotland which offers an excellent quality of life in a rural setting. It has plentiful outdoor pursuits, affordable housing, low crime rates and a strong sense of community. Relocation packages are available for the right candidates.

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, being part of this prestigious team offers you the exciting opportunity to work in a variety of stunning locations and embrace the unique challenges and opportunities presented by rural practice, being based in an out-of-hours centre, within a community hospital or in primary care settings in Thurso.

You will ideally be experienced in pre hospital care, community hospital and transfer environments, which require extended skills such as non medical prescribing, advanced clinical assessment, BASICs, ALS, PLS, intermediate and palliative care. We are also seeking nurses who have experience at specialist or advanced practice level within the primary care environment in both unscheduled and scheduled care provision. Opportunities to acquire additional skills would be made available to the right candidates who are as excited about this as we are. If you do not meet the criteria for the Band 7 ANP post, we will be happy to consider you for a Band 6 development post; however you must be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development, be highly organised and have good IT skills.

In remote and rural locations, the healthcare professional is a key part of the community, which brings specific challenges but can also offer fantastic levels of personal and professional satisfaction. You will be working as part of an extended team of professionals including Advanced Pharmacist Practitioners, GPs, the Scottish Ambulance Service, RNLI Coastguards, Fire and Rescue Services, Mountain Rescue, and Local Community Hospitals. This team is developing a new model of care which moves away from a doctor-dependent model to a doctor-led service which is largely delivered by a wider mutli-disciplinary team working in extended roles.

It you are looking for a rewarding career change, please contact us for an informal chat, to find out more about this exciting team and discuss the vacancies we have. The service is new, innovative, and evolving, and remote and rural healthcare has unique challenges.

We are flexible in our approach with these posts, and are happy to talk to anyone with a genuine enthusiasm to deliver quality healthcare to our rural communities. Portfolio career approach is also a possibility and we are happy to consider fixed term contracts. In and out-of-hours work will be required for all team members, including on-call.
