Lapwing

It took me over 15 mins. to travel a quarter of a mile yesterday. I was following a family of lapwing. Mum and four chicks were wandering down our lane and Dad was bombing all who tried to get them out of the way. I was in no hurry and they were so lovely to watch it didn't matter much

Great, my favorite bird from Caithness, elegant, beautiful and fearless in defence of its family.

There is a big boom where I live just now in the population of Canada Geese, most normally migrate but now many are staying put, don't know why but in the last 5 years its growing and growing, and they like to live in any part of the city no matter how busy it is. There is nothing funnier than watching a pair of these huge birds waddle out into the middle of the road and then just stop for a rest and stare at the angry drivers honking at them, I just sit and wait and giggle because I really like to watch them, I live just north of the city center and sometimes in the morning I have had as many as 20 in my back garden just layin down waiting for the sun to rise properly. Have no idea why people get so impatient with them, the poor birds don't understand that they are getting in the way, the way I see it we are getting in the way of them.

How right you are I feel so lucky to live where I can watch these wonderflu moments

Had one land right in front of my car the other day - nearly gave me heart failure. Fortunately I was going slowly and just waited until it decided to move. They are such lovely birds and I look forward to their arrival in the fields round here every spring.
More of a problem are some tiny birds that will fly in front of the car as I'm coming up the track, landing on the ground and then up again. Nearly hit one the other day as it flew off to the side so I started moving and it came straight back down again. Don't know what they are but it's worse than following lambs - at least they're bigger and more predictable.
