    A CAMPAIGN against delivery charges imposed in the far north, has received more than 1,500 signatures from businesses and individuals incensed at what they view as a punitive and unfair extra cost. The operators of Stack Coffee House and Bistro in John O Groats said people in the north Highlands have had enough of being treated as if they live on a island and are seeking to add fresh momentum to the Highland-wide campaign to have the levy charged by some courier firms, scrapped.

    WHAT at first sight looked like a pile of rubble a farmer has cleared from his land has, turned out to be a potentially important archaeological discovery in Caithness. The Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology was invited to do some excavation work at a site on the Thrumster Estate, following an exploratory dig in 2015.

    A NEW service to help children maintain a relationship with a parent they no longer live with, has been hailed as "hugely important" in the county. Relationships Scotland - Family Mediation Highland - launched its child contact centre at Wick Youth Club last Thursday.

    AN animal refuge in Caithness took in almost 260 pets and other animals last year which were found injured, abandoned, or handed in by owners who were no longer able to care for them. The Scottish SPCA animal rescue and rehoming centre at Balmore celebrates it 23 anniversary anniversary next month and has helped find new homes for thousands of animals who have been left homeless over the last two decades.

    MORE than £500 was raised for Bowel Cancer UK as over 150 people attended Dunbar Hospital's vintage tea party in Thurso. The hospital was transformed into a tea emporium with tables laden with colour table clothes, hand-decorated flower vases and vintage tea sets.

    THREE local charities have benefitted from a fundraising initiative which was launched by the Coop-in Thurso. The project - part of the company's membership community pay-out scheme - raised more than £9000.
