A WICK mother says her children are dicing with death on a daily basis as they cross what she claims is a dangerous stretch of road on their way to school. Julie More believes something needs to be done about the town’s George Street or an accident is going to happen.

A NEW service is available in Caithness to help children affected by family breakdown to maintain a relationship with the parent they no longer live with, or with other family members. The child contact centre, based in Wick Youth Club, provides a safe, friendly, neutral and child-centered environment for children to meet with a parent or family member with trained staff there to offer support if needed.

PARENTS could be forced to give up their jobs, due to controversial plans to reduce the school week by half- a- day on a Friday, in primary schools. Some secondary schools in the Highlands already close early on a Friday and the remaining senior schools are set to follow suit by August.

PLANS to create a new tourist attraction in one of Wick’s most historic buildings have been scrapped on cost grounds. The proposal to turn the Carnegie Library building in Sinclair Terrace into a technology centre, has been withdrawn as those behind the scheme said they could not afford to take over the running of the building.

BEER cans found spread across one of the county’s most-visited tourist areas, is giving concerns drink driving is becoming a problem. Sarah Humphreys was so fed up of seeing the sides of roads in and around John O’ Groats being cluttered with litter, she decided to do something about it.
