What was yer subject or speciality at school?

The oldest asked me this question the night?I was a Maths buff but liked ma English as well.Loved ma P.E but wisnae classed as a subject then.Still remember circuit training 20 press ups,run to the next point 20 star jumps then 20 sit ups then 10 shuttle runs.KNACKERIN and they say excercise is good for ye.Worse in matters,this was done straight after sausage and mash,wi treacle sponge for afters

Loved History but don't remember being taught any local stuff. I was good at English, so-so in Maths and absolutely useless at PE, Art & Music. Could cook a bit too. Geography I was too busy being scared of Maggit Scott to take much in and Science depended on whether Mclure was scaring you or Bill Oliver was telling you jokes.

I did Latin too, Oddquine, but it was a bit of a struggle at the time!
My favourites/best were English, French and History....
I loved Art -but I wasn't all that good at it...
Maths, science & PE, cookery and sewing were all pretty dreadful!

Football, but I peaked too early. I was only eleven (but very good, 'onest)
Then English Language, but sadly I peaked at 49, by which time I'd left school

We must have been there in the same era. Maggot Scott was a fierce wifie and no mistake, although for some incomprehensible reason she took a shine to me.

Dempster McClure I really didn't like. Bill Oliver was probably my favourite teacher, which was actually a bad thing as he influenced me towards chemistry, when physics was my real calling.

I was also very fond of John Leitch. Despite the dreadful personality, he was a stunningly good maths teacher.

I too studied Latin but only under duress although it did leave me along with French and English a lasting love of languages and their derivations.
Favourites were, Geography,Art and Design. English Literature and any form of sport.

In Practical skills it was woodwork, but probably my best subject was English and History.

My best subjects were English (writing and literature), music, and drama...followed by art, and languages (I had German and Spanish). I enjoyed history and sciences, and did well in them, too. Didn't mind PE if it was something like trampoline or archery , but never saw the point of exercises for the sake of it or running round a track! Hated math...still do.

Once I got to high school it was time for fun so I did not excel at anything. I did love PE though -- I've gone back to Scottish Country Dancing after all these years. Maggot Scott was a tough cookie but Mr. Milne, the Latin teacher used to scare me -- I can still picture him standing up in front of the class swaying back and forth. I do regret not studying more but yet I don't know what I would have done differently in life.

I specialised in the cross-country run. Out of the playing-field gates, down the track until out of sight, duck into a nearby derelict out-building, out with the fags and wait until the nutters started to come back.
You had to wait until quite a few had passed before you run back in with the stragglers having splashed in muddy puddles and done just enough to get sweaty and out of breath.

If you got back with the front runners you were likely to be noticed and that would never do!
Yes, school was excellent for my education, it gave me a good start in life!

my favourite subjet was food and nutrition( iwas the only male to take it at 'o' level in my year)
i enjoyed (and still do) history .

but my ultimate favourite for some strange reason was statistics

Best would have been English and Mathematics and worst was the sewing class. My handicrafts were so bad I was sent to do technical drawing as a punishment.....but I loved it and have put it to good use since in an amateur way. Just for the record I never did come to terms with sewing if my skirt was too long I bought higher heels! But I taught myself to knit in later life and can turn out arans and lace with the best of them now.

My best subject was art and design ( going by my grades) but I loved Health and Food technology, lifestyle and consumer tech and music. Loved my 5th and 6th year in school as it was all subjects that I liked. Was useless at maths! Not the numeracy but all the soh cah toa ( spelling?? ) carry on was just beyond me im afraid!
