    TWO far north mums-to-be, forced to make a 100-mile plus treacherous journey on snow and ice-bound roads, are pleading with NHS Highland to review its recent major change in the area's maternity service so no woman has to risk their lives to reach a hospital.

    THE newest addition to the Caithness fishing fleet has officially been christened, as dozens of people from Caithness headed to Denmark for its naming ceremony. The Bremner Fishing Company will soon be bringing home the 2.8 million Boy Andrew WK170 after final fittings to the vessel were completed this month.

    A BUSINESSMAN has lost thousands of pounds during one of his busiest times of the year after he claimed his telephone number was changed without his permission. Graham Thornhill initially rang BT last month to change his banking details for Ramscraig Boarding Kennels which he runs in Dunbeath. Though he wanted to retain his telephone number, he said he was told he would be given a new one.

    THE way school pupils' additional support needs are assessed, should be urgently reviewed. The statement was made by Linda Malik, a former member of Wick High School parent council. She made the plea after discovering Highland Council is advertising for an additional support needs officer who will be based at Wick.

    CAITHNESS saw one of its biggest snowfalls in recent years, with more than six inches blanketing the county. The heavy snow on Friday evening meant locals woke up to picturesque scenes but also some travel disruption and school closures.
    THE prospect of strike action at Dounreay has move a step closer after a crisis meeting failed to resolve a pay dispute. Talks have been held, in a bid to reach an agreement over the issue but they have failed.
