Identify suspected drinks driver or face the consequences - sheriff

A SHERIFF has given a woman time to identify the driver of her car believed to have been under influence of drink.

Stacey Bremner, 26, was warned by Sheriff Andrew Berry that failure to do so would have "series consequences" for her.
Bremner, of 48 Kennedy Terrace, Wick admitted failing to say who was driving her car at Mill Lade, Carnaby Road, Wick. on April 16

Wick Sheriff Court was told that police were conducting inquiries in the early hours, into reports of a car being driven in an erratic manner by someone who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Fiscal Fraser Matheson said that Bremner had been observed "running along behind the vehicle". It was found by police abandoned.
As the registered keeper of the car, Bremner was interviewed by officers indicated she had been present but wasn't someone who would be "a grass"and she was charged.

Mr Matheson said that despite further inquiries, the driver had not been traced,
Sheriff Berry warned Bremner that about the serious consequences withholding the information and said it could lead to a charge of perverting the course of justice.

He continued the case for a fortnight to allow Bremner to consider her position and if necessary contact a solicitor.
