Caithness Courier headlines for November 9, 2016

A MILITARY tower which has stood over Wick for more than 100 years could be demolished as public officals pore over its future. Highland Council is looking for feedback from the public on whether to carry out repairs or level the Solders' Tower at North Head on the outskirts of the town. But people have reacted angrily to any suggestion of knocking the historic monument down branding such a move scandalous.

THE police stations in Wick and Thurso are not on a list of 58 under threat of closure. That was confirmed by Police Scotland this week following an inquiry from North of Scotland Newspapers.

A WARD at Caithness General Hospital in Wick has been closed it has been confirmed by NHS Highland. The health authority said the eight beds at the Queen Elizabeth assessment and rehabilitation wing have been transferred.

ANY plans to introduce charges for town centre parking in Wick, would be "chaotic" according to community representatives who are calling for more motorists to use free car parks that are available. Wick Community Council said streets in the town centre would experience even more problems than at present, if charges were introduced to car parks.

CAMPAIGNERS calling for a halt to health service cuts in Caithness are to meet NHS Highland chiefs to discuss their concerns. Members of Caithness Health Action team are to meet health authority representatives at the Pulteney Centre, in Wick, on Monday December 19.
