A PLAN by a Caithness businessman to build a luxury £7 million hotel overlooking Thurso Bay has suffered a setback after local councillors raised concerns about the prospective loss of the view out to sea. While not against the venture, they do not want it to be build in what was described as an iconic area of the town.

ANTI-SOCIAL driving in Thurso town centre is to be tackled by police with the launch of a new initiative. Local officers along with the divisional rroads policing unit will target speeding careless and inconsiderate driving racing noise exhausts drivers causing excessive or unnecessary noise and vehicle defects.

THE last of the higher activity liquid waste produced during Dounreay Fast Reactor fuel reprocessing has been made safe for future generations. It is an important milestone in the immobilisation of the historic liquid waste known as raffinate, created from reprocessing undertaken during operation of Dounreay's three reactors.
