Glass of wine tipped driver over the limit

A WOMAN, who "foolishly" consumed drink and then got behind the wheel of her car, has been fined £300 and banned for a year.

Heather Mackay, 38, came to the attention of the police in the Mount Vernon district of Thurso, on June 23, when she made "a sharp manoeuvre" in her Audi car, Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

A roadside test proved positive and further tests revealed a breath-alcohol level of 32mgs - the limit is 22mgs.

When charged, Mackay of 1 Saoirca Cottages, Gillock, told officers that she had had "a glass of wine".
