Man threatened to have police officer killed

A SHERIFF heard yesterday about an Aberdeen man's bizarre behaviour which involved jumping up and down and attempting to headbutt police officers and their vehicle and threatening to have one of them killed.

Scott Grant, 21, admitted charges of assault and threatening or abusive behaviour when he appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court. He will be sentenced on August 23 after Sheriff Andrew Berry considers a background report.

The court was told that the police had occasion to call at the accused's then home in Willowbank, Wick, on July 6, last year and were immediately subjected to abuse by Grant who jumped up and down, in his bedroom - "consistent with him having taken some substance or other".

Fiscal Ross Carvel said that the abuse continued, with Grant saying he wasn't scared of the police and accusing them of "having it in for him since he was 16." It was however, the first time the officers had encountered the accused.

Grant ignored advice to calm down and was told he was going to be taken to Wick police station.

Mr Carvel said that this triggered further abuse from the accused as he was led downstairs, headbutting the stair wall on the way and again jumping up and down and attempting to headbutt the constables, Stephen George and Lee Milner.

Grant then attempted to headbutt the police vehicle and spat on PC George. The aggressive behaviour continued at the police station where the accused made several attempts to headbutt the officer whom he threatened -"Tell me you live in Aberdeen and I will sent the boys round to kill you".

An attempt to have Grant, now living at 3 Dancing Cairns Crescent, Heathryfold, Aberdeen, medically examined, had to be abandoned because of his behaviour.

He was further remanded pending sentence.
