    Default Wick Gala 2016

    This year the Gala Week is from 23rd - 30th July 2016

    Friday 22nd July
    6 – 8 pm ONLY Collecting tins to be picked up from Assembly Rooms. Children under 16 must have an adult to sign out the tins.

    Saturday 23rd July
    2pm 5k run for adults, £5. 1 mile fun run/walk for children, £1.
    Register at boating shed from 1-1.45pm. Refreshments after run.
    6pm Gala Walking Entrants judging at Riverside beside Rose Gardens
    7pm Crowning of Gala Queen at Riverside Car Park.
    Guest Speaker: Murray Lamont, followed by procession of floats.
    9.30pm Presentation of Prizes at Assembly Rooms. Snacks available.

    Sunday 24th July
    7.30am Wick Gala Walk-on Open at Wick Golf Club. Tee open from 7.30 am, play all day. Prize-giving on Thursday night.
    11am - PracticeCaithness Autocross Club – 6TH round of Championships.
    1pm – Sibster Mains, Reiss. Weather Permitting. Refreshments available

    3pm Blessing of the Fleet at Wick Fishmart by Captain Morag Sabiston

    Monday 25th July
    Judging of Scarecrows
    11am Despicable Me film showing at Pulteney Centre, £2 entry.
    11am – 1pm Riverside Nursing Home fun day for Residents & Guests.
    2pm Children’s Dog show, Boating Shed, Riverside. Entry £2.
    2 – 3pm Seaview Nursing Home fun day for Residents & Guests.
    6.30pm Gymkhana ,Riverside, £10 per rider. Contact Ashleigh Campbell on 07716 596 164 for further information.

    7.30pm “That Was The Wick That Was" - Stories & pictures of Wick over the last 150 years. From The Johnston Collection by Eric Farquhar. At Pulteney Centre. £5.
    8pm Family Quiz, Assembly Rooms Price £2 per person, maximum 6 people per team.

    Tuesday 26th July
    11am Baby Show, Assembly Rooms – Admission £2.
    2-3.30pm Children’s cupcake decorating, ages 5-15, £5. Assembly Rooms. Book in advance, phone Lyn on 07808 510 409. Bring an apron and rolling pin.
    7pm Children’s fancy dress, Braehead, Wick – Register by 6.45pm.
    7.30pm Whist Drive, Assembly Rooms - £2 with refreshments
    7.45pm Seven Gates 10th Anniversary Celebration with guest speaker Willie Watt and 2006 Gala Queen Chloe Bunch. At Wick Harbour gates followed by refreshments at the Old Herring Mart where the 2006 school children’s artwork dvd will be shown.

    Wednesday 27th July
    2pm Children’s Walking Treasure Hunt, Boating shed – Admission £2, ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
    2pm Senior Citizens Treat, Assembly Rooms, tea and music.
    5- 7pm only Sweet and Savoury Evening, Assembly Rooms. £3 entry for Primary School Children, £6 for 12 years and over.
    6.30pm Car Treasure Hunt, £5 per car starting at the Assembly Rooms
    6.30 & 7.30pm Caithness Sea Coast Tours from Wick Harbour – Booking essential - £12 Tel 01955 609200.
    7.30pm The story of illicit whisky making for 15 years in the 1930's on top of Newton Hill by Wullag Thomson (for 15 years the police and excise couldn't catch him). In music, story and song by Nancy Nicolson in Pulteney Centre. £5.
    8pm Bottle Top Bingo, Francis Street Club.
    8pm Scottish Variety Show, Pipe Band Hall, Wick – Tickets £6/£4 concession, includes refreshments.

    Thursday 28th July
    10.30am – 4pm Caithness Quilters Exhibition, Assembly rooms, £3.
    12 – 4pm Mini-mudder obstacle course and barbeque. Wick Riverside playpark, entry £2. Wear suitable clothing/footwear and bring a change of clothes. You will get wet and muddy.
    7.30pm The Generation Game, Assembly Rooms. Wick’s version of the classic TV show. £5 adults, £3 primary children.
    8pm Wick Golf Club presentation of prizes.

    Friday 29th July
    10am & 11am Teddy Bears picnic, 2 sessions, for under 5’s, entry £4 includes picnic, book in advance, call Katrona on 07843 084 095.
    10am Boogie Bounce exercise class for children, £2 at Harpers Bar.
    10.45am Boogie Bounce exercise class for adults, £3 at Harpers Bar.
    7.30pm Strictly Come Dancing Evening – SOLD OUT.

    Saturday 30th July
    12 –3pm Fayre in the Square, stalls and a programme of entertainment.
    7.30pm Pipe Band & Highland Dancers, Market Square, Wick.
    8pm Barbeque, Riverside. Enjoy a tasty kipper.
    9.30pm Bonfire Lantern Walk. Meeting at the Lantern Tent at Riverside, behind the side-shows. Lanterns available, £3.
    10pm Fireworks display by Fireworx Scotland.


    Multi-day Events


    Wick Heritage Museum, Bank Row, Wick – £4, children 50p. Monday 25th –
    Saturday 30th 10.30 – 3.45pm

    Wick Voices – Wick Society Oral History Section is holding an open session in the
    Old Herring Mart. People are invited to share memories of their school days.
    Monday – Thursday 10-4, evenings on request.

    Isabella Fortuna and Heritage Mart will be open to view. Monday, Wednesday and
    Friday 10 – 1.

    Caithness Creative Festival at PPP. Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th July. Event
    Showcasing Arts, crafts, jewellery etc. Opening night on the 22nd. Open to the
    public to view and workshops in the 23rd and 24th.

    Red Herring Competition - £1 – Forms from Post Office, High street

    Scarecrow competition – Scarecrows to be displayed during Gala Week.
    Judging on Monday night, categories: Residential, Business &Traditional.
    Entry forms from Cameo.

    Gala Week raffle: 1st prize a barrow of booze, 2nd prize a bucket of booze and 3rd
    prize a bottle of booze. Tickets available at most events, £2

    Trophy to be awarded for best dressed shop window. Theme: Scarecrows
    Volunteers welcome to help count the money in the Assembly Rooms on Sunday 24th July from 10am – 4pm.
