Driver was almost five times over the limit

A DRIVER, tested almost five times the legal alcohol level, has been warned he could lose his vehicle.

Ian Bain, 57, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Police who stopped him near his home at 21 Castlehill Avenue, Castletown village, on Sunday night, got the smell of drink and a breath test proved positive. A further test, at Thurso police station, revealed a breath-alcohol level of 106mgs - the legal limit is 22mgs.
Bain's Mazda car, said to have a current value of £1025, was impounded by Sheriff Andrew Berry following an application by fiscal depute, Fraser Matheson
The sheriff will take a decision on the question of forfeiture when the accused, who has a previous conviction for drinks driving, returns to court for sentence, on May 27 when a background report will be considered..
Bain is subsequent to an interim disqualification meantime.
