On what type of tree do goldfinches nest. I've read that they nest in a 'spreading branch', but in which type of tree?

Not sure what kind of tree, but i do know they keep about our bramble bushes, and feed on the thistle seeds.

Judging by the large number of gold finches around me there must be a number of nests but I have never seen one. They certainly are not using my bird boxes, that's for sure.

Same here, been feeding 10+ all winter, then went down to 4 a few weeks ago, now back up to ten. Bird boxes still have vacant signs on them.
