Sending Parcels from Wick

Hi all,
I am thinking of selling my sea fishing tackle on Ebay, but not really wanting to use Royal Mail, do any shops locally offer a parcel drop off point for collection form courier firms such as Hermes etc

i use what was ajg sent parcels down south at chrismas they got there quicker than royal mail 48 hrs which took 4 days not 48hours 01463715843

over 2kg and you're best using Hermes, no drop offs in Wick or Thurso, but they pick up from your house for an extra 20p https://www.myhermes.co.uk

OMG! Hermes, I would not touch them with a Barge Pole. Royal Mail definitely the best and will get there the quickest as well.

i second that kodiak hermes is useless have a habit of put parcel in bins or saying they have delivered and thats not the case . At christmas i was puttting my bin out and just happen to left the lid (something i do not do normal do ) and there was a parcel i had been waiting for they are hopeless

Thanks for all your replies, I have never had any trouble with Hermes, so from what a couple of you have said, I think I was lucky. The trouble with Royal Mail is if you want to get it signed and tracked (we all know the Ebay scammers who say things never turned up) it gets expensive, but it may be a case of you get what you pay for, so may try and sell it locally save the hassle.

I was going to suggest you try and sell your gear locally, it gives folk a chance to see what your selling and no postage to pay. I would have thought the market for fishing tackle in Caithness would be high.

6 months ago I would have said Hermes were less than useless, after a couple months break from them they now seemed to have organised their self a bit more. They also offer a corporate service to very big clients for next day deliver and I think that's the whole reason for the tidy up.

With the small price increase announced this weekend I hope that will signify another level of improvement ideally delivery speed. It's like every other delivery service it's the drivers who makes or breaks your service and paying peanuts used to get them some less than dedicated staff, though from what I've seen recently they might be raising the bar.

I also use Parcelforce and hope that this might still continue when we start sending from Caithness in a few weeks as they have no premium charge to send from highlands down just England up.

Geoff going back to your original question, I'm also a eBay seller and use hermesfor everything from small parcel upto 2-3 kilo which I then switch to Parcelforce. Because I'm vat registered it makes them cheaper than Royal Mail and normally you get a delivery signature even if not paid for. In the last 60 items I've only had one item lost and they credited back the retail price of the itme upto £25 (that's their basic service)

lastly parcel2go.com can be very handy for prices on other countries or very big items, they make a small margin. If I find anyone else once I'm up there I will certainly add it for you.

i you wish to send a Packet or Parcel by Royal Mail Signed For, (What used to be called Recorded Delivery), Then you will be charged £1.10 up and above the actual Cost of the Postage. Please note this is Royal Mail and not Parcelforce.

A Parcel up to :-

• Max length: 45cm
• Max width: 35cm
• Max depth: 16cm
• Max weight: 2kg

If you send 2nd class Signed for then this would cost £3.90 by Royal Mail and only £2.80 without being signed for. Delivery by 2nd class mail is usually takes 3 days. Far quicker than Hermes as they can take up to two weeks to deliver.

We use Menzies ( the old AJG ) ,they're very good and pick up from the house.
