Default WWI Centenary project, Pibrochs and Poppies

Great project from Strathnaver Museum and Feis air an Oir exploring the piping legacy from Mackay Country. Filmed in Bettyhill, Tongue and Durness the film shows some young musicians from Caithness and Sutherland who learned a number of pipe tunes composed by Willie 'Gruids' Macdonald, originally from Melness and later Lairg. Willie served with the Scots Guards during the First World War as did his brother John - who as Pipe Major of the 1st Battalion in 1930 altered the Changing of the Guard at Windsor to include the pipes at the instigation of George V.

For more details about all the pipers identified see the Pibrochs and Poppies page on the Strathnaver Museum website.

A really impressive effort and well worth looking at in more detail. Even better take a run to Bettyhill and see the museum.
