Thread: Achnachy, Caithness

    Default Achnachy, Caithness

One of my ancestors was born at Achnachy, Caithness in 1811. I have researched Achnachy on Google and cannot find any information for it. Does anyone know where Achnachy is located, is it a village or parish?
    Thanks,
    L. Sutherland

Could it be Achnacly instead of Achnachy? An h i handswriting style could look like an l.
There is an Achnacly between Reay and Halkirk - check here https://canmore.org.uk/site/184420/achnacly
    and here: http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/di...-volume-09/124

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,
I am sure you are right and the spelling is different on the family tree site. I have not found an actual birth document. This is in the general area where the family lived during the 1800's. My understanding is the family moved from Golspie to the Thurso and Halkirk area around 1810. I will add Achnacly to the story. Thank you so much for you help.
    Take care,

    You're welcome! (once again )
Do you know about this webpage where you can check the census in Caithness from 1841 :
    http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
We have found several of my husbands relations using it.
