Default Council tax freeze leads to over funding of councils

Interesting information about the council tax freeze. It appears that by fully funding the council tax freeze, the Scottish a Government has given councils more money than they would have received had there been no freeze and they had increased the council tax in line with the Retail Price Index. “In total, over the six years, this has resulted in an estimated £164.9 million extra going to local government as a result of the freeze.”Read more: http://www.scotsman.com/news/politic...ixzz3mbNpAkxvq

    Default

Nice bit at the end of the piece quoted .

However, Scottish Labour’s public services spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said the findings showed councils had been starved of cash since the SNP was elected in 2007 compared to the eight years Labour and the Lib Dems held power.Ms Baillie said: “Since taking office the SNP have passed cuts on to local councils across Scotland. The reality is that under the SNP Government funding for councils has been cut by £755 million, putting at risk some of the essential services, like care home visits, that people rely on.”

Sounds to me like the SNP try to spin their way out of what we already know.

If the above post where true then we wouldn't be having councils constantly cutting back on services.
