hoping to get some for garden they are supposed to keep down snails and slugs in hosta garden

Use used tea bags (opened) or loose tea or coffee grinds around the hostas as slugs and snails do not like crawling over little stuff that clings to them - used it for years and it works.
Go to any of the local hotels, coffee shops etc they are usually happy to give you any used coffee grounds
