After swearing never to look in on and get upset by the "going ons" in LOTL and Loch Garton ever again, here I am having the occasional peek. What a year this is! Lady has not returned to the nest this year and it now has a new couple in residence. They have three eggs and are awaiting hatching within the next two weeks.
At Loch Garton, there's not such a happy story. EJ and Odin met up again and she laid three eggs. However something happened to Odin and he disappeared for ages, leaving poor EJ to fend off intruders and have a bit of a fling with a very persistent young man. He stealthily got rid of two of Odin's eggs and tried for the third. EJ rescued it and despite it being left to get too cold, she started to incubate again and I see she is still sitting. A few days ago Odin miraculously reappeared again and after a long struggle managed to chase off the new male and join EJ in the nest, bringing her fish occasionally but not often. He is a bit suspicious of the remaining egg and not keen to incubate. It's getting too late for EJ to lay another batch this year so all looks lost at the moment.............. to be continued.
