    Default Smart meters

If "they" tell you that you have to have one, you don't. At least make sure you know exactly what you are letting yourself in for before deciding.

Quite correct Badger. If you are careful with your consumption anyway you will not need a smart meter. Plus of course they use electricity to operate!!!

Some may argue they will benefit users because they will monitor the household energy use. They will also monitor the household non-use and know when the house is empty. Of course we can have absolute trust in the people who hold, store and use this information can't we?

Where I live some of the water companies have put in smart meters. Now if a house is unoccupied and the pipes burst, the computer alerts the water company to the sudden unusual usage, and they send a tech to turn off the water. They save several house every winter.

You reckon they'll send burglars to Caithness, to pilfer all our household bullion and diamonds?

Yes I did. I found it to be a load of guff in the Ludditesque style.
